Charlie Kirk was my friend, and his death was devastating to Tommye and me—as it was to so many of you reading this. Charlie graciously came to Houston on two occasions to help me raise funds for our work. At the bottom of this email, you’ll see pictures from his last visit two years ago. He was generous with his time and always willing to help others succeed.
Charlie was a courageous and gifted man. When an assassin’s bullet struck his neck, it stole away a true gift from God. For Charlie, instant death meant instant glory, as his Heavenly Father met him and said, “Well done, my faithful servant.”
Charlie’s Legacy
- He was the faithful leader of one of the largest and most successful conservative organizations in America.
- He was a devoted husband to his lovely wife, Erika.
- He was a loving father to his two children—a daughter, age 3, and a son, age 1.
- He founded Turning Point USA in his garage at age 18.
- He was a faithful son to his parents.
- He was self-educated and well-read.
- He spoke at liberal institutions, debating students and professors, and persuasively changed the minds of many misguided young people.
- He challenged students to reexamine their liberal beliefs, converting many to conservatism and mentoring thousands of young men to become “real” men through TPUSA chapters on college and high school campuses.
- He is credited with playing a major role in helping elect Donald Trump in 2024 by mobilizing millions of students to register and vote conservative.
- He was kind and always smiling—even when dismantling the arguments of those he debated.
Charlie’s life was taken just as he entered adulthood at age 31.
A Biblical Reflection on Adulthood
The Bible repeatedly notes that adulthood begins in a man’s life at 30:
- Joseph was 30 years old when he began serving Pharaoh, king of Egypt (Genesis 41:46).
- Saul was 30 years old when he became king (1 Samuel 13:1).
- David was 30 years old when he became king (2 Samuel 5:4).
- Ezekiel was 30 years old when he began receiving visions of God’s glory (Ezekiel 1:1).
- Jesus was about 30 years old when He began His special work for God and others (Luke 3:23).
We may never fully appreciate all that Charlie was prepared to accomplish until we reach Heaven. But the monster who stole his life will face a great reckoning for his wicked deed.
We must honor Charlie by taking up the mantle of courage and revival. God is fully able to send renewal to our nation—if we will live as Charlie lived.
