A Word from Dr. Scarborough

Dear Richard,

I have been traveling extensively since our last newsletter. Harold Shurtleff contacted me months ago and invited me to come to New England and speak in churches about the need for pastors to engage in the civil arena. Last Sunday I flew to Boston, where I met with a house church meeting in Lexington, Massachusetts.  I found a small but dedicated group of Christians who are committed to pushing back the curtain of darkness that has ascended on that part of our country. I felt like I was seeing where Texas and the rest of country is headed if we don’t wake up soon.

But I do believe we are awakening.  Signs of change are everywhere if you look.  This week the Supreme Court corrected a terrible decision that their predecessors perpetrated in America in 1973.  I knew Norma McCorvey, who was the Roe in Roe v Wade.  She was introduced to Christ by a close friend of mine, Rev. Flip Benham, shortly after abortion activists convinced her that the baby she was carrying was just a blob of tissue in her womb and that she would be better off having it eliminated from her womb.  She became a radiant Christian who fought for Roe v Wade to be overturned until her home going in 2017.  I’m sure she is rejoicing in Heaven today with her child, along with 60 million other children who were denied their right to live, brutally murdered by abortionist doctors, nurses, and their accomplices in Hollywood, the media, and halls of Congress.  We won’t know until we get to Heaven how many incredible people and their contributions to mankind, were killed by abortion and those who made their living killing the unborn.
Also, the Supreme Court, that has a decidedly more Constitutional approach to doing their jobs, is righting many wrongs with every ruling, often by 9-0 majorities, which flies in the face of the narrative of a divided court which the media is perpetrating.  Christians have reason to rejoice.  I believe more encouraging rulings will come down before this session end.

Just today, as I write this newsletter the Supreme Court ruled Monday that a former Washington state high school football coach had a right to pray on the field immediately after games. The 6-3 ruling was a victory for Joseph Kennedy, who claimed that the Bremerton School District violated his religious freedom by telling him he couldn’t pray so publicly after the games.  Every Christian reading this should be shouting thanksgiving to the God who has not abandoned his people and we should thank God for the courage of the six Justices that ruled that we still have freedom of religion in this country, without which this country cannot survive.  Now its up to you and me to courageously confront the evil stalking our land and say, Enough is Enough! And boldly stand up for God in the public arena!
As I traveled across New England, I saw countless church structures that were being used by new owners for selling their wares.  Others were shuttered and closed as Christianity has been forsaken by the vast majority of those living there.  The Covid shutdowns, due to those in power who determined that liquor stores and Walmart were essential businesses, but the church was not, added to the permanent closures of many dying churches.  Most preachers turned to zoom calls for church, teaching many that church was indeed non-essential.  Now many former attenders have chosen to get their church online if they get it at all.

I returned to Houston for a reception for Recover America hosted by friend and board member, Dr. Steve Hotze.   His wonderful home was filled with friends and interested invitees who came to learn what we do and determine if they wanted to join our growing team of partners who support our work.  It was a wonderfully encouraging evening for my wife and I and our team.

The next day Tommye and I flew to Springfield, MO, to join over 100 Christian legislators, including several from Texas like Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, in the beautiful facilities of the College of the Ozarks.  Lt. Gov. Patrick received a national award for his faithful Christian testimony as he leads our state and impacts our nation through constant exposure in the media.

The sponsoring organization was the “National Association of Christian Lawmakers,” or NACL, as they are known.   I serve on the advisory board and addressed the group on Saturday morning.  You are seeing some of the pictures taken at the conference and a video of my remarks will soon be posted on our website for you to see and hear.  The College of the Ozarks, located just outside of Branson Missouri is one of the most beautiful campuses in America.  They receive no government funds and no graduate leaves with debt. They call themselves The Hard Work University, as every student that is accepted must take a job and work his way through college, paying for his education.  It is a marvelous concept and one that could be duplicated over and again by men and women of vision. Tommye and I stayed in one of their guest rooms.  It was perhaps the most impressive and nicest accommodations I have ever experienced in fifty plus years of traveling. We were treated as royalty by the staff and students throughout our stay.

The rest of the summer will be devoted to finding the rest of our team of 2000 preachers in Texas who will join us in turning out millions of voters who will vote as followers of Jesus, voting Biblically for candidates who share their values. Please join us in this mission by making the largest contribution you can.
